Students with a fever of 100.0°F or higher should remain home until they are fever-free for 24 hours after the fever has subsided, without the use of fever-reducing medication.
For each day your child is absent, for any reason, you must provide an excuse so the absence can be marked excused (absences are unexcused by default). You can do this in any one of these ways:
- Email a detailed explanation to dtesattendance@leonschools.net
- Send a doctor’s note to dtesattendance@leonschools.net
- Turn a doctor’s note in to the office
- Upload a doctor’s note in the Focus Parent Portal
Only one method is required. You can send a message at any time, 24 hours a day. -
For planned changes, send a handwritten note from the parent/guardian to the teacher the morning of the change. If possible, write the note on our Transportation Change or Early Pick-up Form.
For emergencies during the day, call the school office by 2:20 PM. Because teachers are away from their desk during classtime, emails and Remind messages cannot be accepted.
No transportation changes will be made after 2:20 PM.

All volunteers must complete the Leon County Volunteer Application each year.
To chaperone a field trip, you need a chaperone badge, which requires a background check and fingerprinting. Start by picking up a packet from our front office, have it signed by Mrs. Keltner, then take it to the district office for processing. The process can take six weeks, so apply early if you might chaperone this year. The chaperone badge is valid for five years.

Most events on our campus that do not tie directly to academics are coordinated by our incredible PTO parents. PTO posts information about these events on their Facebook page and their website. If you have questions, you can email the PTO at desotovolunteers@gmail.com.
