Randy Baez

My name is Randy Baez, and I’ve been the music teacher at DeSoto Trail since 1999. I look forward to having your child in my class! I earned a Music Education degree from the University of Puerto Rico and moved to Tallahassee from Puerto Rico in 1987. I’m a certified K-12 Music Teacher and achieved National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Music in 2005.

My goal is to educate, develop, and inspire students to reach their full musical potential and enjoy music for life. I believe music education should foster independent, creative musicians. Our program is unique: beginning in first grade, each grade level performs a musical production every year, giving students an exciting “big stage” experience.

When not preparing for a show, students explore music through the Orff-Schulwerk approach, which blends music, movement, drama, and speech into playful, creative lessons.

In my free time, I enjoy teaching Zumba Fitness and spending time with my family.

DTES Concert Chorus

DTES Concert Chorus

Since 1999, the DTES Concert Chorus has been an inspiring part of our community. Directed by Mrs. Baez, the chorus meets before school and gives students the chance to develop advanced musicianship in a supportive, creative environment.

Members learn to sing in harmony, follow a conductor, work as an ensemble, and build confidence as performers. Throughout the year, the Concert Chorus represents our school at community events, sharing music with local audiences. Students in grades 4 and 5 may apply by completing the chorus application and committing to twice-weekly before-school rehearsals.
