Welcome to Second Grade
We are looking forward to growing our DTES family one trailblazer at a time. In second grade, your child will continue to become more independent in reading and writing. Second graders will develop addition and subtraction knowledge as well as learn place value, time, and money. The students will be introduced to the scientific method and learn science concepts and required vocabulary. Additionally, students will be tested on second grade concepts and receive feedback about their success.
We are very excited and honored to lead your child through a successful school year!

Assessment Procedures
The rigor in second grade has increased since first grade and our team has been working hard fine tuning assessments and grading. Please read the following grade level testing and grading policies carefully.
Grading Scale
- A: 90-100
- B: 80-89
- C: 70-79
- D: 60-69
- F: Below 59
We are teaching our reading and math curriculum with fidelity at school, but your child will need additional support from home. It is extremely important to take the time to read to your child nightly, familiarize yourself with the new FSA format, and stay updated on your child’s weekly progress.
