Green Team and Sustainability
Green Team
The Green Team meets twice a month to keep our school garden thriving and our campus looking its best. Members learn how to grow their own food and explore nutrition through hands-on projects that connect science and healthy living. Beyond gardening, the Green Team is about building community. Students in grades 3–5 work side by side with Trailblazers from other classes and grade levels, forming friendships they might not make otherwise.
If you’re interested in joining, let your teacher know at the beginning of the year, and they’ll refer you to Mrs. Griffiths, our Green Team sponsor.
EcoSchools U.S. Green Flag School
DeSoto Trail Elementary is proud to be the first school in Leon County to earn the Green Flag Certification, the highest honor awarded by the National Wildlife Federation’s EcoSchools U.S. program. This distinction recognizes schools that meet rigorous criteria for sustainability education and action: conserving resources, protecting wildlife, and engaging the community. Our achievement reflects a school-wide commitment to environmental stewardship and hands-on learning that empowers students to make a positive impact.
