Melissa Olson, Enrichment Specialist
Hello! I’m Melissa Olson, and I teach our K–5 Advanced Learners program and serve as the 5th Grade STEAM Special Area teacher.
I’m a Texas native and Texas Tech graduate with a BS in Education and endorsements in Gifted Education and ESOL. After ten years teaching in Texas, I moved to Florida with my husband, Scott. I taught in Naples before we settled in Tallahassee, where we’re raising our two boys, Reese and Teagan.
Outside the classroom, I love family time, reading, gardening, exploring nature, and traveling internationally. Each school year is a new adventure, and I’m inspired by my students as they grow, embrace challenges, and have fun learning!
Advanced Learners (Explore)
Welcome to Explore! Advanced enrichment learning services are provided through this program for students who are identified as gifted or talented.
Our Explore program provides services that will appropriately challenge and meet the unique needs of advanced learners, including cognitive, social, and emotional needs.
Learners who are identified as gifted come from all backgrounds and possess talents and abilities that cover a wide range of achievement. These students exhibit high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area. They display a strong sense of leadership and excel in one or more academic areas. The National Association of Gifted Children has created a list of common traits that may indicate potential giftedness.
