Speech & Language Services

Speech & Language Services at DTES

Speech and language services are provided to qualified students by certified Speech‑Language Pathologists. SLPs collaborate with teachers and other staff to embed communication goals into the curriculum. Students qualify under an Individualized Education Program (IEP) through assessments that identify speech or language impairments that cause an adverse effect on educational performance. Services are provided based on student’s needs as defined in their IEP and typically target one or more of these areas:

  • Speech (articulation, fluency)
  • Language (receptive and expressive)
  • Pragmatics (social language)
  • AAC (assistive technology for students with limited verbal skills)

Lindsay Adcox, M.S., CCC-SLP

Lindsay Adcox

I am a speech-language pathologist with a Master’s degree in Communication Science and Disorders from Florida State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Faulkner University. Born and raised in Tallahassee, I am excited to be back serving my hometown and supporting students in their communication development.

I bring over 10 years of experience working with individuals of all ages in a variety of settings, including skilled nursing facilities, early intervention programs, and schools. From 2019 to 2021, I had the privilege of contracting in several Leon County schools, which strengthened my passion for working with children. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog, being with family and friends, exercising, attending concerts and musicals, traveling, and exploring the outdoors.

Jessie Clarke

I am a speech-language pathologist with a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, nursing homes, and rehabilitation facilities. I have also served students at Oak Ridge Elementary and Fort Braden PK-8, and I am excited to continue supporting communication growth here at our school.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, who is a detective with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, and our two wonderful children—a lively two-year-old son and a sweet five-month-old daughter. In my free time, you can often find me at my family’s beach house, riding on the boat, practicing hand embroidery and needlepoint, or cooking up new recipes in the kitchen.
