Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please visit the LCS Student Admissions website for complete details. Enrollment for the next school year begins April 1.

If your child is new to Leon County Schools, you will need to complete the online registration form to add them to your Parent Portal account. (If you are a first-time LCS parent, you will create your Parent Portal account at the same time.) All proofs of residency should be sent to our registrar at jennifer.bates@leonschools.net. You can also contact Jennifer with any questions about registration.

If your child is already enrolled in LCS, but they are changing schools because you moved into the DeSoto Trail zone, please submit proof of your current address to your child’s current school. This documentation must show that you now live within the DeSoto Trail school zone. Your child will be transferred to DeSoto Trail automatically. At the beginning of the school year, you will be able to update your child’s registration information in the FOCUS Parent Portal.

  • If you live outside our school zone, or if you want to join us for VPK, you’ll use the School Choice application. Start by completing the online registration form to create your FOCUS Parent Portal account and add your student to it. Once you’re in the Parent Portal, find the link to the School Choice application under your child’s name.

The School Choice application deadline is March 1. For more information about School Choice and Reassignment options, visit the LCS School Choice Office website. Leon County Schools offers reassignment for sibling support, grandfathering, over to under capacity, and hardship.

  • Visit the Student Admission Enrollment page for a current list of items required to enroll.

  • Attend our Back-to-School Orientation in August. Watch your email for specific information about the date and time. This information will also be posted on our school calendar. Orientation is when you'll find out who your child's teacher is and have a chance to meet them.

  • All Leon County elementary schools follow our district's Elementary Code of Conduct.

Mrs. Keltner and Mrs. Keen share an overview of the Code of Conduct with all classrooms at the beginning of the school year.

  • Leon County Schools has adopted Guidelines for Wireless Communication Devices to be in compliance with a Florida law banning student use of cell phones during the school day.

  • Our school supply list is located on our website and is broken down by grade.

  • School lunch menu information is located on the LCS Dining Services website.

  • No, there is not a list of books for required summer reading. However, we do encourage our students to read at least six books of their choosing over the summer and keep a summer reading log. Those students returning to school with a completed summer reading log will get to participate in our Summer Reading Celebration. Information about how to become a star-studded reader and our summer reading log is available on our school website. We also have Watermelon Wednesdays, four afternoons where our Media Center is open during the summer to check out books. (For safety reasons, an adult must accompany children to the Media Center.) Subscribe to our listserv and follow our Facebook page for details about Watermelon Wednesdays and other events.

  • Get involved with our Parent Teacher Organization! As a parent or guardian of a DeSoto Trail student, you are automatically a member of our PTO. At the Back-to-School Orientation, there will be representatives from our PTO Board on hand to answer any questions about how to become a volunteer. We also plan to have BooHoo/Yahoo Breakfast on the first day of school. Our Volunteer Coordinators will be on hand to answer any questions about volunteer activities.
